Authentic Tavern Style Pizza Has Arrived In Nashville!

Chicago’s other iconic style of pizza is now being served at Gino’s East location in Nashville. Known for their famous deep-dish pizza, Gino’s East is proud to bring the Windy City staple to Nashville. Created in the early 20th century, this type of thin crust pizza is famed for its crispy, cracker like crust and distinctive square cut.

Why should Nashvillians be excited about a thin, square cut pizza?

  • Tavern style pizza is inarguably the other famous Chicago style pizza. Some Chicagoans even prefer it over deep dish.

  • Hate the crust? Well, now there’s middle pieces. It changes the game.

  • Cutting the pizza into squares allows almost double the number of slices than a traditional pizza.

  • Gino’s East has brought their professional pizza makers from Chicago to Nashville to teach firsthand how to create this delicious, crispy tradition. It’s as authentic as it gets!

The history of tavern style pizza even predates deep dish pizza. Originally pizza was a food only served in small, Italian bakeries in Chicago but everything changed with the end of prohibition in the 1940’s. Small neighborhood bars and taverns needed a food that was cheap and easy to serve to their customers.  These guests preferred to pop into the tavern after work to see friends and family before heading home for a traditional home cooked dinner. Thus, the tavern style pizza was born! The tavern owners were not as prone to follow traditional baking methods of hand tossing dough, as they were mostly concerned with making the most out of the ingredients they had, which led to rolling the dough thinner and piling on cheese. The thin dough and usual toppings of veggies and meat made it extremely popular and cutting the pizza into squares made it easy for people to eat and share.

Gino’s East is proud to be serving their famous deep dish pizza and the authentic thin crust tavern style pizza to Nashville locals and visitors.  Both pizzas are now available with a variety of toppings for dine-in and take-out from their Nashville location at 311 3rd Avenue South.
